enough of my bitching and moaning about stuff, let's get down to TALKING NERDY. or better yet, SPECTATING THE EVOLUTION OF MORE YOUNG NERDS.

the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competition was founded by dean kamen, and it sets teams of high-school-aged kids building robots to perform a set of tasks, and then they play a game against each other.

the boston regional competition is happening today and tomorrow over at the BU Agganis arena. the blue man group is doing a small act to kick off the final competition around 12:45 on saturday, too.

i'm volunteering as a safety advisor ("you there, put your goggles on. they're eye protection, not forehead protection") and will be around saturday. i was there yesterday evening while kids were still setting up and fixing their robots and getting them inspected, and there's a whole lot of young nerds and clever robots.

it's free, so if you're in the area and have a chance to wander by, i suggest checking it out. it's pretty nifty.
