first off: HEY NEW HAMPSHIRE! WELCOME TO THE PARTY!


yesterday, i looked at the things i felt i had to get done in the near future and at the number of them that would be facilitated by being free during business hours, and ended up arranging to take today off.

i slept in (a bit - i have off-hours work tomorrow morning, so i didn't want to skew my schedule too much, but i did sloth around in bed petting the cats[1] after waking up), then got up and am now enjoying a tasty cup of tea.

it's trash day and the trash is out, including a dent in the "i should sort through this and put it out" sort of trash. i have a (long overdue) haircut scheduled for late this afternoon. i am putting together the various paperworks for bank-related errands (shuffling money, etc). i have a bunch of house-bound stuff i will do as soon as i stop procrastinating via livejournal updates. :-)

A hospital where Carol used to work had a special code name for when there was a fire. That would come over the PA system as an "Engineer's Conference." The unknowing must have been scratching their heads[1] one day, when Carol heard them call "Engineer's conference in the laundry ventilation duct"

i don't know if it's still the case, but in the past, the ham radio nerds providing communications for the boston marathon had a set of code words regarding things that had happened along the course. so that things like "my kenwood radio is having problems" would mean "there is an injury" or something like that.

Great. I'm going to be spending a lot of time searching for the infamous "Be of good cheer" Peanuts strip. Judging by art style (as I remember the strip), I expect to find it somewhen in the mid-1950s (possibly as early as 1952).

OK, those imaginary subway maps are too cool for words. Particularly the Northampton/Amherst one; that sure would have been handy when I was going to college out there.
