Date: 2009-09-08 02:52 am (UTC)Well, not quite, but this happened over ten years ago, when one of our room mates had a long haired cat, I had no idea about how to train animals, and was quite naive about cats. In other words, it was an accident. But it might work for y'all.
Jack the cat kept barfing. He was the only cat I've ever lived with. So, here I am, at the supermarket, and see a tube of some paste that claims (a) to be delicious to cats and (b) to somehow stop or alleviate the problems with fur balls -- naturally, this naive darned foreigner buys it.
So I get home and it doesn't take long for Jack to barf in the living room. "Oh, yeah!", says I, "I got the thing to help with that", so follow the directions on the tube and put some on his front paw so he can lick the delicious thing. He promptly shakes his paw and runs away. I clean the floor. Please stop laughing. :-P
Later the same day, he throws up in the kitchen, so I get the tube of medicine again and put some on his nose, like the alternate instructions say. He's still pissed at me, but licks his nose clean. Over the next few days, I put the thing on his nose every time I remembered, which was the 2-3 times a day he barfed.
A few days pass, I don't see barf anywhere. I am about to think that the paste helps and I hear him throwing up in the bathroom. I take a look inside. He's barfing in the litter box. I'm just fine with that. Apparently I accidentally trained him to do that to avoid the paste. ;-)
Good luck!
