I like the re-write better.

once more, I am truly weird, in that the rewrite also fails to capture my sentiment. :/

...how bizarre. The original really doesn't feel very xkcd at all. It's way too cynical and depressing. I like the rewrite better too, though like [livejournal.com profile] srakkt it doesn't quite catch my sentiment, either...

i think spirit is waiting for us to catch up with her so that she can eventually sit out her dotage in the Mars City One branch of the smithsonian air and space museum, waiting for bored martian children on school trips to walk by and touch her in the "touching martian history" exhibit.

After watching them drag Liberty 7 out of the ocean, this is not a very odd thought.

I'll tell my kids to look for it. Kind of cool actually.

Huh, while I agree the original is kinda dark, there's lots of precedent for that in xkcd IMO. A lot of his earlier romance-related ones were kinda downers, for example.

I continue to like the first one better.

Happy again, thanks!
Makes more sense too - where did the rover in the first one get the idea that it would be "going home"? Did NASA lie to it?
