i took today off to get some work done.

so, the tenant's nephew (who lives out of state) said that all he wanted (besides family photos, which i'm keeping an eye out for) were the tenant's guitars and the electric keyboard. so i packed everything up in guitar boxes (big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] i_leonardo for picking them up for me and providing some packing materials) and shipped it all off today. yaaaay! this is a huge thing off my list of things to do to deal with the apartment.

i also found a couple of organizations that will take housewares and furniture and give them directly to people transitioning from homeless to a residence and thus need housewares and furniture. (my first preference is to put the stuff to work directly helping people when possible. from there, goodwill or something like it. after that, craigslist and the curb. i'm avoiding the salvation army because it seems an inappropriate place to send the belongings of a pagan gay guy.)

did some more cleaning, which resulted in me being inspired to take this picture of myself -- myspace pose + respirator. it's a look. *grin*

Have I told you lately that I love you? If I didn't before, that photo would have sealed the deal.

This place in Acton also takes household goods. They do the direct turn around thing too. Basic rule is '10 years old or less'. No clothing. You pretty much have to drop off yourself, within their somewhat limited working hours.

We really like The Wish Project out here in Lowell (http://thewishproject.org/). They supply/outfit people who are transitioning from homeless shelters to homed and need household goods (http://thewishproject.org/goods.html). I could be convinced to come down and grab some stuff and take it to them if you think you have stuff that would be a good match.

Go you! Fabulous work. Good look, too. Very post-apocalyptic.

Sounds like you've got it covered, but if you need more places to get rid of housewares, there are also organizations that help people who are getting out of abusive situations and setting up households. That's where most of my dad's housewares went after he died.
