i knew it was coming. but now it's begun to arrive.

i've got a couple of pairs of drugstore reading glasses (like, 1.25 or 1.5) that i've been using to read uber fine print and such. i've just realized that the +1.5 pair i keep in my bag makes the iphone more usable without having to zoom in on pages in safari.

it's still just a matter of minor fuzziness, but still. HELLO, OLD, HOW ARE YOU TODAY. ALSO, YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN.

Some of us have been four-eyeses forever. It's not so bad. Considered downright sexxay in some circles.

oh, up until the lasik a couple of years ago, i'd had glasses since elementary school.

right now, there's the point about 4-6 or so inches in front of my nose, and before lasik i couldn't see clearly beyond it, and now i can't see clearly closer than that. :)

Ahhh....the other thing. Yes. That's in my (almost inevitable) future.

*nod* I keep upping the light levels around my SMT work station at home. And a jeweler's loupe is really impressive for fine-repair of watches.

The good news is you can no longer see your gray hairs.

More importantly, you can no longer see mine.

Kinda like "beer goggles", huh?

Yeah, my eyes are starting to fail too.

All my life I've had better-than-20/20 vision, both at a distance and close up. It's very clear to me that at *least* my vision has deteriorated to the point of being baseline, and it may actually be worse than that now.

It's not actually problematic yet, but it's still distressing. Gonna get my eyes checked some time this year.

On the plus side, the work on sequencing my own personal genome has begun. Maybe I can harvest fresh eyes from a vat-grown clone soon enough. Yay science!

Oh, did you end up getting a kit from 23andMe, too, when they were on sale? I got one, too. Really looking forward to seeing the results.

I could think of a few body parts I wouldn't mind regrowing.

Uh yup.

I too had LASIK a few years ago after wearing glasses since the age of five. I started needing the reading glasses just a few months back. I can get by with the cheap +1.25 drug store ones, but I have one very expensive pair made by my optometrist because my eyes are different prescriptions, one eye is +1.25 and the other is +1.75.

I bought several cheap pairs and have them in places I might need them around the house, bathroom reading, bedside table, in my jewelry making toolbox, and in my handbag. The expensive pair is where I read the paper every day.

uh yup, we's gettin' old...

You are going to be a grand old dame.

You're not there yet, but I'm already looking forward to it.

Feh, I just lift my glasses up to see fine print.

I was thinking about asking the eye doctor about using the technique for cataract surgery to fix my eyes instead of lasik, because fuck glasses. 30 some odd years of this is enough.

I got bifocals (well, "progressive lenses") about six months ago. I feel your pain.

I get it. I've worn glasses since college. But last year, at 32, I was prescribed reading glasses... and got bifocals. ACK!

May I simply point out...you are not old. I am three*. You are younger than I am and hence...you are not old.

*Because [livejournal.com profile] daily_alice told me so.

It's really time for me to pick up a pair of reading glasses too. I am getting by without them but reading in low-light conditions is tough.

At the risk of making a ludicrously drastic understatement, there are worse burdens in life.

oh hell yeah.

coincidentally, the email "word of the day" I got today is meiosis (http://wordsmith.org/words/meiosis.html), which can mean "understatement for rhetorical effect."

My eye doc said my eyes were too flat for lasik. And my prescription is so strong it makes everything tiny. So I find myself lifting my glasses and holding things close to my eye if I need to see something small.

But I'm not old. Since Jeff is 1.5 years older, he's old and I'm young. Bwa haha!

Although I do find myself complaining about the fashions of teenagers. (Fellas with your pants below your bum cheeks with your thin undies hanging out, WTF?)

I felt the same way. After finally being able to see perfectly after LASIK, I really resisted the CVS glasses (which I got). Now you can find me in the supermarkets making funny eyes and holding the labels out to try and read them. Since when did label print get so tiny anyway?!! I did find one fun product, though:
