Folks who've seen "Ka": how is it? I have heard differing reviews from folks, but I no longer remember how much my tastes meshed or failed to mesh with the people offering reviews.

[livejournal.com profile] clauclauclaudia and I have seen Mystere, Le Reve, O, and Zumanity. We usually do at least one show when we're in Las Vegas, and "Love" is dark for the duration of our trip, so "Ka" seems a possible choice.

i enjoyed ka very much. it definitely had "look at our INCREDIBLE STAGE and the neat tricks we can do on it!" but it had actual story and characters and damned nifty tricks too.

i also liked "love", but you have to go in expecting "gorgeous spectacle set to beatles music" not "circus" because there was a lot fewer technically impressive circus acts, but it was spectacle worth seeing.

I think that you, in particular, would really enjoy Ka, for the technical stage geekery opportunity alone. It's not my favorite of their shows, but it's quite good. The one person I know who really disliked it has a very negative reaction to stage combat and a lot of the acts are framed as such.

It was ok. I would rank order them thus:

Le Reve
Mystere
O
[Love] (for the Cirque part, if you are a huge Beatles fan it moves above O)
Ka
Zumanity

I thought KA had a pretty stage and impressive use of equipment, but it also had a heavy handed plot, not enough "interesting" acrobatics and the music was uninspired.

It's actually not bad. The stage is a serious part of the story, and it's one hell of a stage. Story is ok, acrobatics very impressive.

I would see it before Zumanity and O, after Le Reve and Mystere (which shows my Dragonne bent).

Speaking of which, Barge is not overlapping Defcon, right?

Correct. Defcon went for 'first weekend including an August day' and BARGE went for 'first full weekend in August'.

Drat. If I stretch out another week of Vegas I'd have to do the week in a cell. Could happen, we'll see.

Mike and I enjoyed Ka. It was very entertaining, and as others have mentioned, the stage had a big wow factor.

On the other hand, I have negative interest in seeing their Elvis show.

Oh yeah - if you have unscheduled time for dinners, Diego at the MGM Grand is some of the best Mexican food I've had in the US, and if you have money to blow, Craftsteak is awesome.

Yes, Craftsteak was really, really good! I wanna go have dinner there now.
