So, it occurs to me that I've got a reader for PDF and other similar file types in my pocket these days. And a fair amount of space on the device as well.

What documents do folks find convenient to have on their portable devices? (I've currently got some technical manuals for personal and work-related stuff, so far.)

Work: my runbooks, emergency contact info, disaster recovery procedures.
Home: appliance manuals, a ton of roleplaying stuff.

Off the top of my head: don't ignore the Baen free library, and don't forget that Baen and O'Reilly offer their books as DRM-free EPUB files (ie. they'll open just fine in iBooks or Stanza).

What I tend to do is, I have a remote repository (MobileMe in my case, but all sorts will work) and an app for accessing it (iDisk for MobileMe, GoodReader for many others). I set up a directory structure with all the PDF manuals for my consumer electronics in it. So I can find the manual for my TV set (including how to program the remote for a new gadget), my various game consoles, all sorts of things, when I need 'em.

What? I thought you were glad to see me!

I downloaded the Kindle app, and am starting to buy books in Kindle format.

I also have an audiobook from Boston Public Library's Overdrive subscription. They have a limited selection, but hey! audiobook!

Yeah, I think the perl book would be quite helpful, actually.

I've pretty much switched all my book reading to ebooks on my phone. I've been buying stuff from fictionwise, but I also use calibre and various "tools" to move Kindle content onto my phone.

I'm also using a comic book reader for some comics (Sandman, Neverwhere, a few others) though that is somewhat less satisfying.

Well, I would keep a document that correlated the chapters in the Music Ace Deluxe software with the chapters in the Music Ace Maestro software. But I don't think that would do you much good. I'd also keep a document with all the restaurants that I've found that are allergy friendly. But again... not sure that's for you. Basically, I'm of no help at all.

I only keep reference materials on the iTouch- recreational reading and most of my research related reading gets done in hard copy. If I had an iPad sized screen to carry around with me, I'd probably do more reading from a screen rather than paper.

I don't have one, but if I did, the formats of various poetry styles would be convenient.

For instance, I always confuse the rhyme schemes for the Shakespearean sonnet versus the Italian sonnet.

And if it ain't iambic pentameter, the odds of my remembering what it actually is are slim.
