the last of my putty-like dental dressing cruft around the back tooth came off yesterday and i couldn't get it to sit back in its place after a couple of escapes. so my tooth is completely clear of the protective putty. it doesn't hurt but it sure feels weird.

but, looking inside my mouth with a flashlight and a mirror, i think it is highly likely i'm looking at exposed jawbone at one spot. which is ... um... weird. i can't tell for sure, but it certainly looks like the gum tissue ends and the smooth white stuff begins.

i'll ask the periodontist tomorrow morning if that's what it is. he said something about exposed bone last monday, so it's plausible.
