So, as I mentioned the other day, i've been planning on making some ginger syrup for easily making ginger tea-type beverage. and so over the weekend i sliced up 4oz of ginger really small and put it in about 4c water. brought it to a boil and then simmered for somewhere between 20 and 25 min, then let it cool a bit and used the water to make not-quite-so-simple syrup. As the syrup was cooling, I threw in a bunch of lemon zest (about half a lemon's worth). it is *awesomely* tasty mixed in with hot water.

Does it mix well with cold water too? Because I'm thinking about how that mix would do combined with the output from my Sodastream...

key point: strain/filter the zest and other stuff out of the syrup.

I saw that sodastream for the first time last week. Would you recommend it?

If you want something good for recovery from a cough, you might throw some astragalus root into the mix. It's got a faintly sweet/not much taste. Its magic herbal power is to strengthen the lungs, and it is very good for situations where your lungs are just kinda weak after a cold.

Another good thing to have on hand is slippery elm powder. One of the true wonder/magic herbs, slippery elm's magic herbal power is to soothe. Mixed with some honey and eaten, it does a great job on scratchy throats.
