I'm officially laid off, last date of employment is Feb 28th of next year.

Which is slow enough that it's like watching the goodyear blimp crash. "OH GOD WE'RE GOING TO CRASH" "okay, let me get a cup of coffee, first."

ETA: Of course, if my manager leaves before that, I'm out of 'luck', as they will presumably decide to not lay me off. So, I have my fingers crossed that he finds something that starts no earlier than March...

Hooray! Welcome to the "been laid off" club! It was one of the best things that ever happened to me. May it be the same for you! Gave me time to found a theater company. :)

wow, that is a long slow blimp crash.

I hope your experience with that is better than mine was, but presumably you have more actual useful transfer of knowledge to do...

Congratulations!

Heh, that last bit almost makes it sound like "Oh God, we're going to crash... unless the pilot wakes up first, so somebody hit him on the head again."

Anyway, Congratulations on boldness and changes and moving forward!

Another nice thing about this is that you can go to interviews without any sneaking around. At least, I found that to be one less major stressor.

Sounds like this was something you wanted, so good for you. And break a leg on the new job search.

Can they really do a "take back" like that if he leaves first?

Dunno. I wouldn't see why not, though. *shrug* I figure I can still make a reasonable argument that they'd do better to backfill him elsewhere and keep me on my way out since i'm actively heading out. *shrug*

Congrats! I'm sure it will be a huge net win for you.

That's a very long layoff. I've only really encountered them as "please pack your desk today."

When I die, I want to be hit by a blimp. It'd be funny as hell.

Best of luck in your NOOOOO VENTURE whatever it is.

Grats! Sometimes getting laid off is the best thing that can happen. I was at the point that I wished they would just fire me at the end of my last corporate gig. Fingers crossed here for your manager finding something else, after you're gone :-)

Congratulations! (Feb 28th though? Do they really think they're going to get the kind of grind out of you they did before? I see a significant drop in SLA response time if nothing else...)

Congrats on getting the layoff! And I hope the long lead time eases some of the nervousness about the future.

Weird on the long lead time, but good. I've had one layoff that took that long, and it was really better than the other ways.

Good luck with your ongoing search.

nonono. I *like* the layoff package. I'm worried they might take it away if my boss leaves!

If I find a job before the summer, I make a profit on this deal. I'm willing to take that gamble.
