My throat had been doing so much better and I was down to a mild cough kept in check with liberal application of occasional cough drops. Until late this afternoon when I had a relentless coughing fit so hard I almost threw up. And now my throat is back to hurting when I breathe too vigorously, nevermind hurting when I swallow at all.

If you can, hot tea with honey. Also, I heartily recommend the Traditional Medicinals brand of herbal teas/tisanes. Their Gypsy Cold Care has been my goto for sinus congestion of all sorts for years. I don't use their cough suppressant mixes because licorice is good for coughs and I *hate* licorice, but I've heard/read good things about them.
