If you're in need of a 'boot to the head' sort of short story, Sarah Gailey's new piece STET is there for you. The story is substantially told in the footnotes, so don't skip them.[1]

Gailey says they wrote the story out of spite, which seems fair as a motivation. God knows I've done constructive things out of spite.

[1] note: story discusses the death of a child.

*makes a note*

I think most of my fanfic is written out of spite, at least in part, so I definitely respect that s a motivation.

Number of years ago some of us at IEEE were discussing the issues around ethics, trolley cars, and self driving AI systems. Ultimately we came up with the idea that each car sold is sold with an Epistemology switch that the owner uses to select the car's moral philosophy. For example:

Socratic: How can this decision be arrived at based on the current social construct of maximizing virtue.

Kantian: How can this decision be arrived at based on laws, intermal human axioms, and the concept of duty to the state

Cyrenian: How can I have the most fun with this situation.

Benthamism: Measure the value of each individual involved and pick a solution that will maximize utility.

Randism: Fuck everyone, I'll take care of NUMERO UNO!

The trick is your car color is based on it's moral values, thus everyone else can see what you have chosen. Though given the vast number of automobile styles, this may not be necessary.
