http://www.bullatomsci.org/issues/1997/mj97/mj97ilnitsky.html is an article from the bulletin of atomic scientists about tunnel hackers in moscow.

it's getting really weird over there, i guess. or maybe it always has been.

I've often wondered what's underneath Boston.

that is both cool, and freaky..

the moscow underground sounds truly extensive.. putting the seattle underground to shame!

(whoever thought building a city on top of sawdust was a good idea..)

I'm such a geek. The first thing I thought of was what a cool roleplaying game or science fiction story you could make around this kind of thing. In fact, I think several already exist.

Very odd.

My second impression is that this can't possibly be real, but the source, while out of date, seems credible, and Kathryn found a Russian site from this year that also talks about it.

The canonical story that takes place in this kind of environment is, of course, Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. I highly recommend it.
