i used to have to double park a lot when i was working construction. one of the things i always did was to leave a note, so that if i didn't happen to be right near the truck, someone would know where to go to get the truck moved.
apparently, this is not obvious for some people.
i came home tonight and there was a car parked across my driveway. not, like, the bumper is sticking into the driveway because someone tried to fit into a spot too small for their car. no, this was ENTIRELY blocking my driveway.
so, i asked the kids sitting nearby if it was theirs or they knew whose it was. they didn't. someone came out of a house while i was looking around at it and the kids asked them (in what i think was portugese) if they knew whose car it was. she didn't.
so i sat against the car and called the cops from my cellphone.
as i was calling the cops (non-emergency number. i'm not an asshole) and giving the nice somerville operator the plate info on the car, someone came out and moved it. i got a bit agitated at him but didn't yell or lose my temper or anything. just some "what the hell are you thinking? you don't block someone's driveway. and leave a note when you do that so i don't have to call the cops."
i did resist the temptation to say something like "you're lucky i didn't just smash in your windshield and slash your tires" because, well, that *would* be inappropriate.
of course, now he thinks i'm a big old bitch. but you know what? he's right.

Date: 2003-09-05 01:29 pm (UTC)As you may or may not know, my driveway is 3 cars wide. I have had
one car park DIRECTLY in the MIDDLE of the opening of my driveway, making it impossible for me to exit/enter my driveway. Not terribly often, but when it happens it is dern annoying. Luckily, I live on a short dead end street, so the owner is normally easy to find.
This became a regular occurance when the house next to me was for sale. Those stupid people and their real estate agents would totally block me in, even as I was driving up behind them. Know what they said? "I'll be out of here in a half hour". Like I'm supposed to sit in the road for a half hour, only footsteps from my driveway, until they leave their car, look at the house next to mine, tour the grounds, then decide to leave. HEH!
So honk honk, and they bitch at me, and say "they wouldn't want to live in this neighborhood anyway" and I said good riddance!
