i think one of my cats is sick. of course, i'm not absolutely sure which one, since there's three of them.

but one cat (nikita, the short-haired, more neurotic one and the one most likely to eat strange things) was throwing up earlier today. and she's the one who has cat-turd-detatchment issues most often, and someone had a bit of that upstairs. but then this afternoon, after finding a cat turd upstairs, i found about a teaspoon - maybe 1.5 teaspoons - of thick blood-looking fluid on my bed. very thick and viscous. i'm hoping it's just kitty 'roids or something. i've got an appt for her tomorrow at the vets and in the mean time i'm keeping an eye on her. she's being kind of low-energy and isn't purring. she doesn't seem to be in pain, just low energy and sick-seeming.

sigh.

The viscous bloody thing was what Maggie was doing when she had plugged anal glands. If it turns out to be that, the vet can teach you how to deal with it at home (if you're willing, it's yucky). I hope whatever it is turns out to be minor.

interesting. i know dogs occasionally have that problem, but i've never seen it manifest that way with dogs. i didn't realize cats had that issue, too.

Our Keisha suffers from the impacted anal glands all the time because she is so fat she can't reach to clean herself and stimulate them to express. It is pretty yucky, but we have to take her in occasionally to get it done.

Check to see if her ears are warm, if she is running a fever I would take her to the vet as soon as you can. Is she eating and drinking normally? Less to be concerned about if she is.

Which vet darling? Sorry I'm out of commission, let me know if you need a second opinion from the disabled.

oh, the place over in everett -- i figure they've got records on the cats.

but i may cancel the appt in the morning -- i found a source for the blood: a fresh scab on the ear of one of the other cats, which would explain the teaspoonful of blood. *shrug*

Yup, ears bleed buckets, that's probably it. I usually just recommend cleaning those up with peroxide as needed - topical ointments just gum up the hairs.
Ask for Dr. Becky at Wholepet, if she is still there.
