how were things at your polling districts? my brother called to tell me that his polling place in boston was a *madhouse* with huge lines, and this was at 7am.

I got to my polling place (in Alexandria, VA) at 5:55AM (5 minutes before it opened at 6AM), and there were about 200 people in line ahead of me. It was busy, but not hectic, if that makes sense. The line moved smoothly, there didn't seem to be any snags in the system (other than perhaps a slightly less-than-idea line flow through the library). I was out of there by 6:40, at which time there were about ~300 people in line.

I'm very glad I chose to go before work, and to get there as early as I did, instead of afterwards!

I got home after work, 7:30 am, found my polling place was the Catholic school.

so I got dressed up in leather jacket, Spider Jerusalem shirt, and frayed jeans and went to go cast my sinful vote for Kerry. (and for Specter!)

it turned out to be a little outbuilding behind the school, and they only had one levermatic voting booth older than my father. But it still worked. I just had to sign the book and didn't even wait in line... the curtain was open so they shooed me in.

I got there around 8 to find a huge line. Waited about half an hour; the bottleneck was that they only had one person checking people off the list.

I've never seen turnout like this, in any election. And there are only two contested races on my ballot (the other one being for state representative).

40 minutes at davis around 10am. there was a line 3 times as long a couple hours earlier. one of the workers apparently had fallen ill, and was sitting in a side room trembling and consuming a hot beverage.

About a 20-voter line at the Somerville Ave Fire Station around 11:30am. The bottleneck was the one person taking names for ballot distribution. No ID check for me or anyone near me.

I wore my no-W-symbol T-shirt and got two compliments on it (both outside the station).

Busy but logical. Took about 20 mins, after which I electioneered otuside and helped old people up the steps. Nothing like watching a 90 year old person with a walker struggle to get in to make you understand how important it is.

Powderhouse School in Somerville had a 45-minute wait at 8:30 or so.

I had heard that the line at the Boston Public Library was out the door and around the corner at 7:30 this morning.

I didn't get asked for ID either.

Ciampa's minions were out in force handing out write-in stickers. Light a candle, could you all?

Very short lines out here in scenic Billerica, as of 6:40PM. About 10 minutes from start to finish. The Boy got to look at his very first presidential election ballot, also.

The longest line for us was the traffic, not the polling. I went at 1:30pm (knowing that 10-12 and 1-3 are the least busy). Once you had a place to park, it was in and out in 10 minutes or less. Best part was the 18 year old in front of me doing high fives afterward, and responding to an electioneer's comment of "Be American, vote Republican" with "But Bush sucks!"

There was no line at the Post Office when I slid my absentee ballot into the slot about three weeks ago. Then I have to wait around for all you laggards to vote...

I did walk by the polling place that's at my work each election (which isn't my polling place) and there was no line and a few booths free with a few booths in use at around 3PM PST.

The 2 Somerville districts at which I volunteered were averaging at least 100 people per hour during the time I was at each (10am-1pm and 5pm-8pm). When I voted at Ciampa Manor on College Ave. at 1:30pm, I pretty much waltzed in and out, but I know from everyone else that they were crazy busy during other parts of the day.
