of *course* people who chase storms put together video. it's like surf videos, or every DIY warren miller wannabe with a handycam on the ski slopes. it just hadn't occurred to me. i came across the 'extreme instability' site today, tho.

that's some impressive weather. i've never been in weather like those big-assed supercells with the clouds coming down like a sudden brick wall. and frankly, that's a good thing.

(no graphic nudity, just a photoshopped pic of clouds)

Every corner of the country has its own incipient natural disasters:

Southeast = Hurricanes
Northeast = Nor'easters/ice storms
West = Earthquakes
Central = Tornadoes

Of the bunch, I've only ever experienced the 1st two. (The little mini-quake we had a few years back barely counts.) The other two scare the living crap out of me, 'cause you can't see them coming fast enough.

However, I am utterly fascinated by 'chasers and would love to hitch a ride with some, one day. Very nifty pix, thanks.

The Northeast gets Hurricanes as well, just much more rarely. :) I've experience The first three and I vastly prefer them all over the thought of number four. :)

Having lived in Michigan and getting to experience ice storms, and living in Texas and experiencing tornadoes, and seeing hurricanes in various media, I have to say that my favorite natural disaster has to be earthquakes.

For starters, if they don't result in massive damage, they rarely result in any damage. And it's like being surprise-attacked by a rollercoaster.

Secondly, if there is damage, it's at least not accompanied by continual bad stuff. It hits, things fall down, and then it's over. Tornadoes are usually accompanied by rain and continual high winds. Ice storms can have long-lasting effects. And, well, hurricanes are really massive tornadoes with tanker cars full of water, as opposed to buckets full with some tornadoes.

And, I have to say that earthquakes are more logical. I mean, tornadoes have sent straw through telephone poles. That's just wrong.

And I thought I was the only weather geek around here and now I discover at least two others on my friends list.
