umm, I-90 goes through Wisconsin and Minnesota, not Iowa. In particular, going from Iowa to South Dakota requires some unusual effort (either going up I-29 or doing some (gasp) non-Interstate driving.

the sad thing is I knew this without having to pick up the Road Atlas.

oh right. i detoured thru iowa to visit kathrynt's parents in iowa city. down I-29 and across I-80, iirc, then i think i picked up I-90 again somewhere in the chicago area.
