the bit flipped.

if i'm just a big state machine, there's a bit flip that changes between "wow, my house is kind of messy. i should do something about that." and "HOLY FUCK MY HOUSE IS A GIANT PIT! I MUST DEAL RIGHT THE FUCK NOW."

yeah, that bit.

i'm a slob.

i'm generally very good on things about organics in the house -- things usually move between the sink and the dishwasher reasonably frequently, there's no rotting food lurking about or anything (modulo the grain moth problem over the summer, but i dealt pretty harshly once i noticed it) -- but when it comes to inanimate non-food things, i'm a slob.

and i have to admit i've gotten better than i used to be, and i think that bitflip i describe above happens sooner than it used to, but yeah... it's shifted from midly cluttered to "must deal now"

I don't think I could manage if I didn't have my once-every-2-weeks cleaning service. They dust/vaccum/mop floors/straighten up piles. It forces me to put a load of dishes in the dishwasher just so the cleaners don't pile things up and break stuff. It forces me to sort thru my mail to find the bills, becauose otherwise they'd get sorted into a pile that I would have to search through. The bed gets made with new sheets. The bathroom gets cleaned. The kitchen gets cleaned. Yes, the house remains cluttered, but at least all the clutter is in nice neat piles instead of strewn all over the place, so it's easier to just grab a pile and start sorting if I get the urge.
