more bfff movies from last nite:
the host was a fairly solid korean monster movie. excellent effects. toxic waste creates a mutant monster in the han river, and the movie focuses on the effect on one family. i enjoyed it.

darkon is a documentary about a larp group in MD. the filmmakers don't mock the larpers any more than i would, but the audience was a bit harsh from what i overheard. it's a good look at what some people get out of LARP and the sort of social training ground that a lot of "safe" spaces are.

blood tea and red string is a hand-made stop motion movie, made over the course of 13 years, predominantly by one woman. it's wonderfully done. the stop motion is lovely. honestly, it dragged in a few spots, but the animation was so wonderfully done that even when it dragged it wasn't boring.

saturday night, instead of bfff movies, clauclauclaudia and i went to see "the margaret ghost" at t@f. i was a little worried that i would be a bit lost since my knowledge of the intellectual personalities in mid-19th century boston was a bit lacking, but the dramatis personae in the program filled me in. the performances were spot-on, and it was quite enjoyable. then a quick stop at and/or for coraline's celebration where i found myself compelled by the power of starkeymonsters boobies.

today, i'm playing hookey from work (well, okay, it's a planned day of hookey) in an attempt to fight back the powers of entropy. between spending all my time sitting on my ass in the balcony of the brattle and going to the cape on saturday to spend time with my folks, i'm feeling a bit behind the curve, entropy-fighting-wise.

taking a day off to do work is, without a doubt, one of those depressingly adult things i do. on the other hand, i'm drinking tea, puttering around, and building my resolve to tackle the monster that is THE LAUNDRY PILE. at the moment, it's taking up the couch in the front room. i failed to deal yesterday (although i did add to the pile by running a load of laundry thru the wash/dry cycle), but did finally get my external backup firewire disk enclosure working again. it's about time to do a backup, too. besides laundry, i should also do a few errands -- food shopping, stop by pandemonium to pick up a special order (including something by mizkit). and then later tonite, back to the brattle for more bfff action. (tonite, triad election and the five venoms.)

on the nanowrimo front, i realized that the idea that originally got me thinking about doing it is entirely inappropriate for nanowrimo. not because it's technically not a novel. not because it's not narrative fiction. not because (in spite of being about made-up stuff) it requires some level of research and accuracy. but because i care too much about the idea and would be unable to manage the leap of not caring about quality or details and just WRITING A FUCKLOAD OF WORDS.

so i came up with a different idea and have been kicking it around for a few days. i think it's got 50k words in it. i think it's a creepy bad-things-happen novel, but who knows, it might turn into a wacky comedy partway thru. but yeah, i'm going to take a shot at nanowrimo.
