so, yesterday, i woke up with a very sore wrist. i assumed i'd slept with it bent weirdly or something. and so i generally tried to take it easy and not taunt the wrist.

well, apparently, i wasn't nice enough to it. i woke up this morning with my wrist so sore i don't think i can safely operate my car (my right wrist is the injured one and i drive a standard transmission stick shift car)

600mg of vitamin I hasn't made much of a dent in it. i'm icing it periodically, and i've moved my trackball to the lefthand side of my keyboard (and boy howdy that's a bit weird to operate)

i tried wrapping it but i'm not sure it actually helped. i'll try it again after the next icing. i may hop a cab over to mt auburn's walk in clinic later today, too, if it seems like the usual treatments aren't helping.

A walk-in clinic won't do anything that you haven't already done. What you're doing is the right stuff, it just takes time and patience and avoiding whatever was aggravating it. Wrapping in an elastic bandage like an Ace bandage doesn't do much good. Taping works much better.

yeah, if it stays like this, i'm not worried. i'm mostly concerned about if it gets worse.

taping rather than wrapping seems a good idea. i think i've got tape around somewhere. i may try that and see if it helps.

that doesn't sound good ... would you like a ride there and back? i can drive you pretty much any time.

hey - ping me (by phone or email) when you're up. i may want a lift over. things aren't better and are possibly worse, and it doesn't feel like the usual soft tissue damage. and i finally (vaguely) remembered doing *something* that hurt it the other nite. or rather, i have a vague memory of saying "wow, that hurt." so there's at least something that might've been trauma.

It is my purely anecdotal experience, starting from the MIT RSI support group about 15 years ago, that for women who are not getting relief from Ibu that Naprosyn seems to be much more effective.

I've never found any actual science comparing men vs women on these two meds, but I have talked to several dozen men and women over the years and anecdotes seem to be consistent.

did you see a doctor?

is it any better?

(makes worried mom face at you as i consider all the interesting things i am learning in class...that aren't so interesting if i am connecting them to someone i like.)

i haven't seen a dr yet. if it's worse tomorrow, i'll go on the worry that it's a bone thing. if it's better or about teh same, i'll assume it's straight-up soft tissue and keep icing and drugging and resting it.

If you can't recall doing anything to warrant the pain, you may have your doctor check for gout. It's my understanding that gout generally first appears in the feet, but not always. When I had the first flair up several months ago I thought I had somehow broken my foot and so did the ice thing for a day or so before going to the doc. Turns out that ice actually makes it worse. Anywho, just a thought.

oh, that's a distressing idea.

happily (?) i finally vaguely remembered doing something before bed the other nite that made me go "ow, that hurt", so there's the possibility of trauma.

i may swing by the dr's today to say "hey, wtf"
