i'm still slogging thru life. i'm being mostly functional when i need to be -- going to work and stuff. on the other hand, i have done things like come home from work, be unable to figure out if i want dinner or what i want for dinner if i do, so i go to bed at 8pm. which, you know, as coping strategies go, isn't a bad one. entropy has run more rampant over my house than usual, but i'm hoping to corral it back up again today, or at least fight back a bit.

i've discovered it's oddly comforting to sort thru my dad's papers, because it's a way i can take care of things that were important to him -- his family, his finances, his business, his clients, etc. there's still more to do, but much good progress has been made.

besides that, mrs lincoln, the show is being good. i'm currently being tempted to have a quiet new year's eve in rather than my usual wandering around to parties. i'm being *exceptionally* hermit-like, in general. which isn't a bad thing. it'll pass, eventually. i'm hoping to be able to wrangle myself up for large-scale human interaction for arisia weekend.

freaky but awesome: in a week, i won't wear glasses. i'm scheduled for LASIK (at the laser joint that my regular eye doctor works with) on 1/3/8. because i am accident-prone yet CLEVER, i have already gotten some safety goggles because when i'm working in very dusty particulate-laden environments or working with tools, i won't have my glasses in front of my eyeballs any more. perhaps i'll build a mad scientist hall costume around them for arisia.

Oh, yeah, mad scientist costume. Gel your hair so it points outward all crazy, splatter a lab coat, carry odd devices in your pockets. If only they made a portable Jacob's ladder.

hair product necessary. maybe some soot for added affect (around the safety goggles, leaving an outline)?

Sharpies in different colors to write equations on the sleeves add a nice effect

You could do a most excellent mad scientist. I think you should.

I buy my safety glasses from Harbor Freight. I suggest you buy at least half a dozen so that you will alway have one at hand. Otherwise it's just too easy to say "I'll skip finding them just this once".

i've already got a handful of regular safety glasses down in my basement already. i wanted something more dust-resistant, so i got a pair of clear and a pair of tinted goggles with foam around them so they're good for dusty areas and/or high wind.

Glad to hear you're taking care of yourself and what needs doing. I keep toying with the idea of LASIK, but after thirty years, my face looks too strange to me without glasses :)

Get yourself a good pair of sunglasses too. More important than safety goggles.

i've got one good pair and a few cheap pairs of sunglasses kicking around already, so that should do okay.

i'd go into the sun with my contacts in, but my usual approach to doing dusty/hazardous stuff while wearing my contacts was to just pop the contacts out and wear glasses. (also, i couldn't judge pipe/screw sizes accurately while wearing contacts. i'll have to learn again once i get my eyes lased, since i'll have the same problem of not having my field of view squished by the glasses.)

I love you and I hope that the surgery goes well. I know KC is in town, we should try and get together if you're feeling up to it later in the week....

Hugs!
