about the previous poll:

sometime after i stopped using pads/tampons, i noticed a lot of workplaces starting to have pads/tampons available for free. these days, in offices, a good percentage of the machines i've seen (that i've noticed) look to have originally been for-pay and are now for-free.

i'm out in indiana, working at SLM's facility here, and i happened to notice that the vending machine was for-pay. and so i was curious how widespread the free vs pay is, these days. it's been over a decade since i had to worry about chunky stuff splorting out of my hoo-hah, so i really don't track this at all.

i assume it's still true that the more you are in need of an emergency pad or tampon, the more likely that the machine is empty.

"chunky stuff splorting out of my hoo-hah" indeed.

We have decorative baskets of the stuff at my office. Of course they're completely out of reach of the toilet (in a separate area in one case) so you have to improvise with tp and mince over hoping the wad doesn't fall out of your underwear and leave a trail down yer leg. But it is free.

it's actually a frighteningly accurate description.

my menstrual system was rather theatrical during the time leading up to the hysterectomy.

Many moons ago when I worked at LLNL, they had "free supplies" in the ladies' room. Both varieties too, and my brand even! However, with the exception of some finer hotels, I haven't seen free supplies very often.

*goes to find poll*

Honestly, these days, I carry around a handful of such supplies rather than rely on fickle chance. But having the machines be for free is a sign of progress.

We have it free in the office. I see it for pay mostly in restaurants.

I've only ever really needed an emergency pad once or twice. I think it was free. And present or it probably would have stuck in my memory more.

The dispenser in the bathroom closest is always broken. ALWAYS. They've stopped filling it with consumables. In a pinch, I have to find another bathroom and hope it will take my quarter.

The other one on this floor does not actually accept the quarters, either. :(
