i'm a sucker for working dogs (dogs with jobs! dogs love to have jobs!), so i cannot stop clicking back page by page in this thread on militaryphotos.net of military dogs.

dogs in agility training! dogs laying down next to their handlers! running dogs! jumping dogs! sniffing dogs! guard dogs! PARACHUTING DOGS!

There was the most adorable dog at CVS tonight. It took all my might not to just flop him down and give him a belly rub. I understand why, but it still makes me sad that you're not supposed to pet seeing eye dogs...

Recently I saw a puppy in the grocery store and reflexively went, "Puppy hi puppy!" and then saw the harness and apologized profusely for talking to the puppy-in-training, but the trainer said that distractions were part of what they were training for so it was all good. >.>

I still feel rather guilty, though.

DOGGIES! OMG! doggydoggydoggydoggy WOOF!!!

New thing I heard on a random animal channel drama - they're now training dogs to attack while having the dogs wear muzzles and the "bad guy" in regular clothes.

This is a change from the old way of having them chew on the safety armor, because it apparently mis-trains the dog to focus on the clothing. So once they've got the clothing stripped off, the stop attacking. Or if the perp wriggles out of his clothing, they don't continue to hold the *person*.

The new way has the dogs focusing on the bad guy's person instead of his clothing.
