this is allegedly a reprint of a post that was flagged and removed on craigslist.

flagged? HELL NO. i would vote BEST OF CRAIGSLIST. (hopefully the violence was overstated. the rest of it is hilarious.)

I have to add that I didn't read it properly at first and immediately jumped to mapping the poly connections...ok, he has a girlfriend and a husband...right...WAIT!

It was a humorous moment of how far out of the mainstream my expectations have come.

OMG. That was fabulous. And I am glad the guy was punched in the nose. He was an idiot.

That was a thing of beauty, no matter the proportions of truth to fiction.

That was great, even as I suspect it was fiction. It's hangs together a bit too well for my taste, but makes a fine teachable moment regardless.

On another tangent, have community standards around violence changed that much while I was oblivious? I processed it as hyperbole and would never have thought to warn about it. I'll try to pay better attention in future.

This is quite a lovely little work of art; it covers all the bases and has a perfect, and literal, punch line.

For some reason the violence and hilarity remind me of my ongoing argument that somewhere about 2/3 of the way through "Return of the Jedi" George Lucas lost his nerve for what makes a heroic adventure heroic and has fucked up ever since. It is not, actually, a world of teddy bears and robots; you can't really address the emotions if you pretend pain and danger don't exist.

these are among the reasons why "empire strikes back" is a far better film than "return of the jedi"

That and Leigh Brackett.

I have no problems whatsoever with a man using an act of violence in order to forestall an explicit threat against his partner. That seems perfectly fair and right on.

I would imagine it's largely fiction, but that doesn't make it not awesome.

Indeed

Aww, that's too bad, I was able to see this missive when it was still on craigslist. I think it's completely awesome.
