Ten years? TEN YEARS?

rmdNext week is the 10th anniversary of Claudia and my's first date. Our Date-iversary, if you will.
Dude. How the hell did that happen? I mean, besides 1 second per second and all that.
Anyways, as a combination "let's go someplace nice in Las Vegas" and "holy crap, nearly 10 years", we went to L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon at the mgm the other night. We succeeded in getting walk-in seating, albiet at the back bar which felt like the kid's table compared to the main bar, but the food was just as tasty and it provided a pleasant bit of privacy compared to the main bar. One of the (if not the) most expensive meals I've ever had, but my God, so tasty. Claudia got the smaller tasting menu with the wine pairing, and I ordered a la carte.
Even the things made from ingredients I don't like were tasty. (I don't care for grapefruit (which I can't eat anyways), or avocado, and yet the avocado-and-grapefruit 'L'amuse bouche' combined them in a way that was actually pretty tasty -- somehow the flavors canceled out the things I dislike about each of them at least in small nibbling quantities). The jambon ham appetizer was sliced nearly-translucent (it reminded me of some kind of educational slide of muscle tissue, actually) and yummy. The steak with shallots was a delight in both texture and flavor. Speaking of texture, the potatoes were outstanding, too. I would not have considered putting black cherry marmalade on sharp sheep cheese but good God, it was yummy. Dessert was a variety of sorbets and ice creams - one of the sorbets was some japanese citrus fruit that was a wonderfully delicate flavor. Claudia's dessert included a slightly different set of flavors, one of which was a chocolate sorbet that was the darkest frozen chocolate concoction I've ever tasted.
So, yeah, expensive but pretty damned yummy.
