one of the cool bits of info I picked up at Arisia is that Nisi Shaw (http://www.sfwa.org/members/shawl/) is working on a steampunk book ... set in the Congo, where the Victorian era got all its rubber for gaskets and such. (What would normally have been the Belgian Congo, but I'm not sure Leopold went and committed crimes against humanity down there in Nisi's alternate history.) Which is full of all kinds of interesting possibilities.
It's kind of frotz's fault -- while chatting, msft and google as potential employers came up and I explained that neither was looking for netnerds afaict. After he left, I figured I'd check that this was still the case since it had been a few months, and sure enough there was a position posted just about 2 weeks ago at msft waltham.
And now I'm dropping lines to some folks I still know there asking what's up with it.
I wouldn't be so sure with Google either; the rate at which they seem to want folks with my (ancient) SA-with-a-side-of-network resume implies that they could use a few pure netnerds in the mix.

Date: 2011-01-21 03:23 am (UTC)I wonder if I'm stepping off the tracks or on the tracks. Fired the big serious flare gun due to work stuff, things are popping up.
I do wonder though...
