so, my fugly stove broke a while back -- the oven stopped working. so i bought a spiffy new stove, ran some plugs so the new stove had a place to plug into (old stove - which I think dated to the 1940's, maybe - had pilot lights, not electrical ignition). and also put up a new backsplash behind it to be prettier, and replaced the fan/light over the stove. the result behind the cut.

the plumber came and installed it this morning. and then i made breakfast of scrambled eggs on it. BECAUSE I COULD.

the bottom drawer is a second (tiny) oven. i'm not sure when the next time will be when i'll need to bake two things at different temperatures, but I'LL BE READY.

and if I convert, it already has a 'sabbath mode' ...

What the heck is "sabbath mode"? It doesn't turn on?

From: [identity profile] rmd.livejournal.com
iirc (mind you, i'm an atheist and a gentile to boot), it overrides the "turn off after 12 hours" safety and lets you adjust the temperature. because i guess you can raise or lower the flame but not actually *start* the fire and still be in spec. so you can keep the food warm across one or more days of high holidays and sabbath and whatnot.

Ah. That makes sense.

More sense than locking the thing down so it can't be turned on accidentally. :-P

That's awesome! We looked at that as a possible stove choice as well, but wound up going with a model that has the smaller oven on top and the bigger one on the bottom. Mostly because we use the small oven most of the time, and it heats up way faster.

YAY NEW OVENS. I love technology.

yeah, the lower oven on this is somewhat underpowered, but i figure i'm unlikely to use it that much beyond, possibly, as a warmer.

i'm all excited to ROAST THINGS and MAKE BREAD soon.

Sadly, I don't think a crowbar would damage it much. Maybe a sledgehammer?

That looks sharp! Nice.

Can you send me the name of a plumber you would recommend? I need to do a couple small jobs in the basement before things get wet down there.

I used Prospect Hill Plumbing & Heating (http://www.phplumbing.com/), which is around the corner from me, for the gas work and had previously used them for some plumbing work. So far, they haven't pissed me off at all.

Oooh, Shiny!

My first thought on seeing the pictures was The stove is on fire!!. Then I adjusted the angle on my display and the backsplash showed up as just a bit less intense. :-)

It does look all shiny and swoopy. I wonder if it does VTOL?

gorgeous! what is the backsplash made of?

it's a piece of a thin sheet laminate, like you'd glue to a piece of plywood to make a counter-top. normally, it's glued for counters with contact cement, but i used plain construction adhesive because it's far more forgiving for placement and i had to wiggle it around the plugs and such.

so far, yeah. the extra-big burner does a fine job of quickly boiling water. i'm not sure if the middle oval griddle burner is behaving as it should -- the flame looks a bit lower than i'd expect. i haven't done much with it, yet, tho, so i'm not sure if the result is as expected. baking/roasting/broiling in the main oven goes well. i haven't used the lower oven yet. i haven't baked bread, but i've roasted assorted meat/veg, biscuits, and casseroles to good effect.

when the griddle isn't in place (which is most of the time), i'm really liking having the continuous surface to slide pans around, although i need to find a new place to set cooking utensils since there's no longer a center spot.
