I'm feeling really *really* fed up and burned out by misogyny right now. Part of it is the political season, with candidates saying remarkably stupid things and having them publicized and feeling powerless as it seems that the culture of my country is shifting. Part of it is the slow burn of sexism (and discussion of it) getting more prominent online, at least in many/most of the places online that I frequent.
If I snap and start engaging in normally-inexplicable levels of radical disruptive behavior any time soon, this will be why.

Date: 2012-10-25 06:56 pm (UTC)Think of them as weak and briefly mentally defective. Or you could use this stupidity and rip them off. Ah, better idea: Rip them off as much as humanely possible. It's necessary to help them learn.
Start.... now... Bob Dobbs approved advice.

Date: 2012-10-26 02:19 am (UTC)Seriously, some days I just want to throw my hands up in the air and go "fuck allya, I'm out"

Date: 2012-10-26 03:20 am (UTC)It might also mean other things, but I find that whenever the misogyny gets me down, if I go out in to the world and interact with actual people, I feel much better. One person, or half a percent of people on a comment thread can fill the place up with stinky shit, and it's too easy to feel like the world has gotten that way. but I think the nature of comment threads is that if they're not moderated the nasty people carry the day. Don't read the comments on the Internet. Also, send me email with a night you're free for dinner.

Date: 2012-10-27 08:47 pm (UTC)Also, if you struck up conversations with random people on the street (and who aren't already in your circle of friends / acquaintances) about the things that are in the news... you'll find that a whole LOT of them think things that marginalize the hell out of you. But we don't really talk to strangers about that stuff. We limit our interactions to "thanks, have a nice day, see you next week" and we don't dig deep.

Date: 2012-10-26 03:39 pm (UTC)But I also need not to be trampling over the speech of those most affected. So I sit on my hands a lot and wish fervently for more of the people (women) affected to get their rage on.

Date: 2012-10-29 10:39 am (UTC)I think what's really needed is more solidarity, more people speaking out against it and supporting others who speak out, not just giving silent (therefore unheard) approval. People get tired when they speak out against some kind of oppression, and the only responses come from the barbarians speaking more barbarities. People get tired fast when they aren't supported; they get energized when they are supported. We need a lot more "Fuck yeah, that's right" from each other and for each other.
