i keep forgetting that it was only 8 years between "Griswold v Conn." and "Roe v. Wade".
the first overturned laws preventing doctors from discussing contraception with patients. the second legalized abortion.

I really think there is a huge gap in the current generation regarding understanding reproductive rights - really even in OUR generation. I truly think a lot of women (let's not even get into the men at this point) believe that the "abortion" argument is just about the convenience of terminating an unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. I do not think they truly understand the history of our struggle for reproductive rights, and how it means everything. Life. Work. Education. Happiness. Everything stems from controlling our reproduction, without that - we're just caged animals.

I would like to say, "and of course Griswold v. Conn means access to birth control is a done deal, and we're not worried about that". But. The latest wrinkle that I've been reading about is the following piece of "logic" from doctors and pharmacists:

A. life begins at fertilization
B. one of the effects of the Pill MAY be to prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg
C. therefore it is against their ethics to prescribe or fill prescriptions for birth control pills

Couple that with the laws in some states stating that doctors and pharmacists have no obligation to fill prescriptions that are against their personal beliefs. So you can show up at your doctor's in some places and find out that you can't get a birth control prescription, or get a prescription and not be able to get it filled... but none of your rights have been taken away?

And don't get me started about Catholic hospitals.

It's less than obvious that the attacks on our freedoms stop when Roe v. Wade is overturned.

Some significant number of fertilized eggs (8 out of 10? I can't remember the exact statistic) fail to implant with or without the help of the pill. Clearly, the only way to avoid accidental 'abortions' is to never have sex in the first place. :)
