okay, i work out in newton in an office park, and the parking lot is big and kind of full. and people seem to have no qualms about parking in the fire lanes, but i don't roll that way, maaaaaaaaan. otoh, people are very conscientious afaict about not parking in the handicapped spots. and it doesn't seem like there's anyone regularly using them, since they are usually completely unoccupied.

now, my knee is kind of fucked up, still. some days it's better than others, still, but i have no idea how long i can expect this to be going on. and the snow is coming and a new tenant is moving into the office building and both of these things mean parking will get EVEN TIGHTER soon.

and so i asked the hr folks, "hey, i'm temporarily not-quite-so-abled-bodied. can i get a temporary pass to park in the handicapped spots here?" because, honestly, i don't feel the need to park in handicapped spots generally -- i just don't want to haul my laptop bag for a quarter of a mile from the ass end of the auxilliary parking lot when my knee's bugging me. and we had those before we moved back at the old building. or maybe back when we had the old HR staff. anyways, the hr folks asked the building management who said "oh, no, you have to get something from the registry or your doctor".

so i improvised with visio and some adhesive faux-lamination plastic sheets.

there's one handicapped spot outside the entrance to the suite I'm in that's usually occupied by one particular car that has a handicap placard. People there are generally good about not parking in them without proper ID. (Unlike my hometown in NJ, where the handicap slots at various businesses and strip malls all seem to be full of self-important twits who'll "be back in a minute".)

I hope your knee gets better soon, so you won't have to worry about this.

And yeah, if they open one more office in that building, that parking lot is going to be full and then some. I wonder if they've started looking into offsite parking again.
